12th Annual UNI Mini-Sumo Smackdown Competition

The organizers of the UNI MiniSumo Smackdown invite you to compete in their mini sumo competition to be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the University of Northern Iowa.  The unique nature of this contest is that competitors can mail their robot entrants to the organizers and they will assign someone to operate the robot as per the owner’s instructions.  Pretty cool, you don’t have to even be there, which is nice on the budget.  The only downside is that the owner does not get to see their robot cream the competition.  Another upside is that the owner does not get to see their robot get creamed by the competition.  I guess it depends on how you look at it.  ?

Bi-Weekly Build Session Announcement

All bi-Weekly build sessions will be cancelled starting 11/29/12 until early 2013. This time of year most members’ schedules become very busy with family trips and holiday activities causing bi-weekly build session attendance to drop. In response to this we decided to cancel our build sessions over a few month period in 2011 and we’ll be doing the same this year.

We will discuss when to resume build sessions during our club meetings in early 2013. Happy Holidays to everyone!

2012 Lakeview Museum National Engineers Day

The Central Illinois Robotics Club will be participating in the 2012 Lakeview Museum National Engineers Week event on February 19th. This event will take the place of our monthly meeting which would have been on the same day. We’ve participated in this event the past few years and pictures are posted from 2011 and 2010.

The National Engineers Week event is scheduled from 1:00PM-4:00PM with setup from 11:00AM-1:00PM. All CIRC members are encouraged to attend and bring their robots to display. Our goal at this event is to share the excitement of robotics through displays, hands-on activities, and demonstrations. We try to include examples of all types of robots such as combat, sumo, line following,  humanoid, microcontroller projects, toys, commercially available robots, and more. This is a fantastic opportunity to get kids excited about engineering and science through robotics and it’s also a great place to advertise our 2012 Bot Brawl event.
